Having been cheap skates and taken the least expensive bus ride down from Iguazu we soon realised why it was mostly empty! So 19 hours later having had no sleep and a very boring uncomfortable night we arrived in the capital. Walking straight into a busy bus station and then onto an underground train it felt like being in London – it was even cold and rainy! Buenos Aires is big and noisy so was a big culture shock! Getting used to people dodging while trying to walk the streets was ermmm frustrating to say the least! Well I actually felt like a grumpy old man at times wanting to shout abuse at people! Its actually quite a nice city with some lovely buildings and areas to see including San Telmo with its Sunday antique market and street performers, Boca and its colourful houses, Recoleta and the strangest cemetery you've ever seen (Eva Peron is buried there) and lots more – things to see that is not other people buried, although there is lots more people buried… anyway I'm confusing myself now!! Whilst in Buenos Aires the Argentinians showed their love for a demonstration – in the first 2 days we saw 3 different big demos. From the much publicized farmers dispute, to taxi drivers with the hump and apparently another one which the government had actually paid people to show their support for the government by demonstrating (the president even made an appearance at this one)!! The capital is a nice place to spend a few days but that was long enough and before the claustrophobicness of the city took its toll.
