Heading back to Lantau and to the airport (the fanciest airport in the world, where only people who can afford Gucci are allowed to shop!) it was time to leave Asia for good, first flying to Malaysia and 8 long dull hours in the very basic terminal! All the fun things and entertainment is in the main terminal, those who chose to fly on a cheap airline get the no frills terminal with a MacDonalds and not a lot else. Not that we were unaware of where we were flying to but if we had been then the sheer number of guys with shaggy blonde hair, flip flops, board shorts and an ironing board under their arm gave you all the clues. It was time to head back to Perth to pick up where we’d left off 5 months ago, encroaching on Shona’s parents hospitiality for some home cooked food, comfy bed and a warm shower. Landing in Perth at 5:30am having not had much sleep we were greeted by Shona’s parents looking all too wide awake. We instantly headed off for the one thing that the Chinese have not yet mastered (well other than the use of hankies!) brekkie. A month of avoiding rice for breakfast that doesn’t have any snap, crackle or pop had left us craving a good old western style breakfast to start the day. We only had a few days in town but that was just enough time to catch up on some rest, recharge our batteries, hit the local bowling alley and lose my crown that I’d won at Christmas (although if general elections are anything to go by coming last means I at least get to be Deputy winner!) and generally enjoy the Perth winter sunshine. Another big thank you to Shona’s parents for putting us up and putting up with us! Us turning up and disrupting that hard retired life you have set up for yourselves must be a little annoying but hopefully tales of China, bike rides in Laos and toe fungus made it enjoyable.
