Climbed out of the canyon and away from the Inca Spirits of Colca, said our farewells to Peru and headed back to Lake Titicaca but this time on the Bolivian side and the town of Copacabana… and yes we did keep singing Barry Manilow songs the whole time we were there (although I think he had somewhere else in mind when he wrote that one!!). Well that and Bob Marley songs as every bar, restaurant and car seemed to be blarring him out constantly – tells you something about this laid back and chilled out town! Bizzarely for a land locked country, the Bolivian Navy is based in Copacabana, very wierd, dont think they were expecting any trouble though as there was only about 4 of them and all they seemed to do was welcome boats into the harbour by playing trumpets. Apart from Copacabanian’s obsession with pop corn, they sold it by the tonne, the other strange thing was that people would come to have their car/van/bus blessed, so you'd see vehicles everywhere covered in ceremonial beads and flowers having just had the blessing….who needs MOT or insurance!? Mine has just been blessed! Hmm might try that one when I get home!! This was the first town in our travels where we'd had trouble finding a room as it seemed that half the student population of Brazil was here on holiday. We visited Isla del Sol, supposedly the legendary Inca creation site and birthplace of the sun in its mythology. It’s a stunning little Island with a lovely 2 hour trek across it and we even managed to get ourselves our own personal guide in the form of Oscar, an 11 year old with a businessman like mind, well 2nd hand car salesman at least. He showed us the ruins and told us lots of information, most of which we didn’t understand (so we just said 'Si' alot) then tried to get as much money out of us as possible by pulling that idylic innocent child face…complete with sunburnt cheeks as all children have here.
