Took an amazing bus journey out of La Paz (leaving the wonderful Bolivia behind) and through a stunning National Park over to the Chilean coast and a town called Arica…cacacaca (sorry bad joke that probably means nothing to some!). Sunshine, sea, surf and chilled out beach bars – aah time for a holiday! Ok so I know you all think that we are on one big holiday but this travelling lark gets tiring so it was time to kick back a bit and relax ‘Shona and Nathan’ style… we spent the next week or so going for long beach walks, surfing (well if you can call trying to stand up on a surf board, quickly followed by falling off and swallowing lots of water “surfing”!), taking nice beach picnics, visiting Lauca National Park which was stunning and generally just having a cool time – which also included surfing one day with a dolphin swimming in the waters about 10 meters away… although when we first saw a fin??!! Spent a very romantic valentines day evening having a beach picnic with a beer when we got approached by some god bothering do-gooders trying to convert the unbelieving, Nathan had a bottle in his hand (beer) and Shona had a knife in hers (she was about to cut something for dinner, honest!) so perhaps we just looked like trouble making down and outs! Anyway, they prayed for us which was… erm … nice! Probably condemning the knife wielding, beer drinking sinners to eternal hell really and then soon got the hint that we weren’t really interested and moved on leaving us to our picnic, spent the rest of the evening watching the waves under the moonlight ooh and a few games of beach football.
