Having said our goodbyes we headed off on our lonesome up to Puerto Varas, a small town about 45 minutes away. Bizarrely for a small town in Chile the first thing you notice when pulling into the town (well other than the volcano…they are everywhere!) is a German style church – it’s like you've just entered the black forest! We spent a few days exploring the surrounding area with its stunning secluded lakes, small villages, volcanos and some lovely little treks – all quite chilled and peaceful really. Whilst here we also decided to change our plans (well what vague plans we did have anyway!), the good weather window down in the far south was slowly getting smaller so we thought it was time to make moves down there. After a few days we headed back to Puerto Montt and managed to get on to an internal flight to Puerto Natales… cheating I know but hey it saved us a 36 hour bus ride down and was only about £30!
