I don’t think it’s named in honour of the ex-gob-shite chav princess from Essex but just outside of Lijiang is Jade Dragon mountain range and it is here, just as we were due to leave China, that we finally got round to seeing a performance/show. Going back 3 and a bit years or so I’d met Shona in China on her way home from travelling and while there we saw what was one of the most spectacular shows you’re likely to see, so when we found out that we would see a performance in the mountains of traditional folk stories we thought it had to be done…..well it didn’t disappoint! It was stunning, visually there was so much going on (I only say visually because I hadn’t the foggiest about anything else!), around 500 performers ran, sang, danced, played drunk at one point, rode horses and much much more all over the stage for 90 minutes – all while acting out local folk stories from around 20 different minorities.
After the show we headed up to one of the cable cars to get a closer look at the mountain (the cheapest cable car having just spent money on the show!) and took a small wander around an area called Yak Meadow – this has now given us the taste for the mountains so its a good job we are heading from here now straight to Nepal.
