Ok, so the bit about being poor travellers is only because we want to go to the Galapagos and this doesnt come cheap, even if you do try and do the poor persons version like we did!! The islands of the Galapagos are about 600 miles of the west coast of Ecuador and are famed for having amazing wildlife – so we fly in to one of the islands and jump straight on a bus over to the main town all excited about the wildlife we're about to see on route – first a cow, then a horse and i think we may have also seen a chicken…so far it seems just like any rural drive in England, well other than the fact it is a volcanic island, but you get our drift. Just when we started to think we'd be conned and it was all no more than a petting farm we spotted in the fields one of the iconic animals of the islands a giant tortoise, probably a meter or so big, ok things are looking up. From then on the Galapagos didnt disappoint, with iguanas, seals, sea lions, manta rays, penguins, sharks, pelicans, turtles, dolphins and much much more! All of them seeming as interested in you as you are them. Day boat trips to other islands, horse rides up active volcano's, watching the locals cliff jump in a remote gorge we happened across and just relaxing on a beach with sea lions made the Galpagos one amazing place!!
