Having flown back to Quito from the Galapagos we were anxious to get out of the city and start making our way down the Ecudorean Andes, so our next stop was a place called Latacunga. We left Quito in shorts and t-shirts, arriving at Latacunga in torrential rain (having driven through a snow storm on route) so were extremely wet and absolutely freezing by the time we found a hostel. Our hostel was lovely but the owner was a very over exciteable lady who wanted to show us the view of Cotopaxi Volcano from the hostel rooftop at every opportunity possible… even 6 in the morning! But to fair to her it was generally covered in cloud (stopping us from climbing it grrr!) so we probably wouldn't have seen it if she hadn't banged on our door everytime it was actually visible. The town was very strange, it lots of very nice and well kept plazas (lit up bright green at night) but it seemed like every other shop was a hairdressers – now we know where everyone in Ecuador gets their haircut!!
