We bunny hopped our way from Hawaii to LA and finally to Dallas where we spent the night in the airport, eating dinner from a vending machine because eveything else was shut (it did take credit cards though!!) before getting comfy on some cozy chairs in the departure lounge. Bright and early the next morning it was time to head to Mexico, shame all we wanted to do at that moment was sleep! We flew down to the bottom tip of Baja California along with a plane full of ‘in the mood to party’ Americans that were heading to the town of Cabo San Lucas, we on the other hand were heading for the smaller and a lot quieter neighbouring town of San Jose Del Cabo. We seemed to slip back into Spanish language mode all too easily even though it had been a while and straight away asked about places to stay and ways of getting there, ok Shona did most of the talking and I just confused matters every now and then with my bestest Spanglish! We jumped in one of the few vans heading to SJDC whilst the rest went to Cabo San Lucas, when it reached the old part of town we were the only ones to get out, it would appear that the cheapies stay here and everyone else heads down to the posh hotels on the beach! And the following evening whilst they would have all been having fancy meals in posh restaurants we had a picnic on a roundabout in town – so very classy! Anyway, back to the beginning – we arrived in the old town and found the cheapest place to stay, a small traditional house right in the centre of town and opposite the church – who needs souless modern hotels. A little old lady showed us to the best room she had, the fact she had no other guests helped! We dumped bags and before my bum could reach the bed Shona was out of the door and off exploring but we only lasted a few hours in the afternoon heat before it all got too much and the lure of a bed and room took over and we headed back for a quick siesta. That night though, on what was not really the most comfortable of beds but to us it felt like laying on freshly plucked sygnet feathers, we had the best nights sleep in ages – a full 10 hours later we finally awoke from our slumber! Over the next few days we explored the old town with its plaza and church, the miles of coastline with pounding waves, the GI Joe and Jane haven of Cabo San Lucas (didn’t stay long, especially after Shona managed to lose a flip flop and had to walk around town with just one on!) and carried on catching up with sleep and having picnics in random places.
