Another day, another night bus, another 4 o'clock arrival…this time jumped in a cab across town to a hostal with an Australian girl we'd meet on the bus. Banged on the door for ages until we finally woke up the owner who rather grumpily let us in.
We'd come to Huaraz wanting to trek in the Cordeillera Blanca but the weather over the last week had been poor and we were advised against it, so having spoke to a guide we managed to arrange a days mountain biking, 2 days hiking, a days rock climbing plus a glacier hike and even managed to haggle a super cheap price as well. So the next 5 days were spent enjoying every minute of what the mountains had to offer, as if the above wasnt enough for an extra unwanted adrenalin rush we ended up in a taxi drivern by a maniac who tried to descend a mountain pass at full speed along a dirt track (Nathan was petrified while Shona was egging him on to stop driving like an old women and go faster!!), the car had 4 bald tyres and he managed to burst one on the way down! Somehow the following day we also managed to get another loon driver who hit a big rock and blew a tyre too! So anyone who's going to Huaraz its definately safer to hire your own car!
