Leaving the lovely Huaraz we managed to bag the frontrow seats of yet another night bus, but this time on a slightly more luxurious one! The ride was amazing, yet really scarey at the same time. We ducked our way underneath natural stone tunnels on the edge of cliffs, zoomed round hairpin bends, overtook anything that felt the need to drive below 100kmph and wound our way back down to the Peruvian coast. Driving into Lima you head through the biggest shanty town in the world, 1000's of people living in poverty in make shift houses. We checked the bible (the Lonely Planet) and headed to a hostal in the Miraflores district and was greeted by a rather flamboyent and over the top gay owner. We checked out the beach, shame it was dirty because the surf looked quite good, although our friendly hostal tried to convince us it was ok and get us out surfing! Shona stocked up on supplies and clothes as some mysterious bug had eaten its way through half of her rucksack…… hmmmm she just wanted some new clothes me thinks! Then headed out, short and sweet stay in Lima.
