From Chachapoyas we travelled down to Huaraz but first of all stopping in Trujillo for around 8 hours in between night buses. Nathan was suffering a little with his first bout of stomach problems and wasnt feeling too great, so we decided against going to see some ruins on the outskirts of town deciding instead to just stroll around town – in the space of the first 3 hours we had walked straight into a huge military parade in town, got conned by some all too nice locals with a fake 100 soles note and explored the main bit of town! So with the afternoon still to kill, we decided against hunting down our scam artists and headed for an arena and to a Peruvian Paso horse show we'd seen advertised on a poster – turning up we were expecting lots of people and this big show but there was about 8 of us there and only a couple of horses performing! It turned out to be a good little show though, we watched the horses dance around the arena gracefully, twisting and turning around a traditional women dancer. At the end of the show Shona got to ride the horses, she was only supposed to be on it for a couple of minutes and walk up and down the arena to experience the unique way these horses trott, however as soon as the owners back was turned she was off trying to make the horse dance – she was having fun bless her! Headed back to town and on another night bus to Huaraz.
