A few other random facts:
Longest bus journey: 26.5 hours (which was part of a 60 hour marathon bus journey over 72 hours – luckily we had a few 3 hour breaks between connections to keep us sane!)
Worst bus journey: 17 hours in Bolivia (with only 2 toilet stops and one of those was a rapidly increasing puddle beside the bus with 50 bolivians – ug!)
Number of border crossings: 21 and running out of passport pages for stamps
No. of punctures: 4 in buses, 2 in taxis and about 8 on bikes. (Have had 5 breakdowns too – 4 in buses and 1 in a car)
Highest altitude climbed to: 5300 metres (anything higher has been too stormy to attempt so far)
No. of erupting volcanos seen: 1 (near Chaiten in Southern Chile)
No. of earthquakes experienced: 2 (well they were tremors really but exciting anyway)
No. of times been struck by lightning: 1 (luckily it was the bus we were in that got hit not us)
No. of bizarre hailstorms experienced: 1 (and the hailstones were like golf balls!)
No. of hostals with bed bug infestations: 6 – and they all itched like mad!
Cheapest price paid for a beer: 22p for a 1 litre bottle – bargain!!
Number of cows herded: 600 ish – and some of them were well fiesty trying to take us on!
Number of sheep herded: 500 ish – but they were pretty easy really although you should see how high lambs can jump after being castrated – the poor things!
