From Sapa we took a day bus back to Hanoi and stayed the night before getting a posh night bus the following evening bound for Hue – this would take us back south but would mean an easier border crossing into Laos and the area we wanted to visit first. So we arrived in Hue all fresh and non-zombie feeling having actually managed to get some sleep on the bus, see it is worth going posh every now and then! We set about getting a few chores done, dull things like laundry, post office and a haircut before making our way over to the old part of town to explore a little. Hue was once an ancient walled city that within it’s walls houses a inner imperial palace and then inside this another palace – bit like the Russian doll of cities! We headed straight to the imperial city walls and moat area for a quick spot of lunch with the locals, think they found us quite funny (or out of place, mad, wierd…) for being there so kept giving me beer the buggers! After lunch we went into the imperial city, which was actually quite cool to stroll around and see – almost a very small and nowhere near as impressive version of the forbidden city. And that was pretty much that, short and sweet!
